“Way #1 for going to the Alps”
postcard

I drew an airship on a postcard with end moraine clay and sent it to the Alps. However, since no exact address could be found, the postcard was returned. This became the story of the temporary return of the end moraine.

An end moraine is a collection of rocks, sand, and other sediments that accumulate at the endpoint of a glacier during an ice age. During my stay in Kleinschönach, southern Germany, in 2023, I encountered this clay, which is referred to as “Endmoräne” (end moraine).
About 10,000 years ago, glaciers extended from the Alps to Kleinschönach. As the name suggests, “End” in “Endmoräne” refers to the end of the glacier. Here, the movement of the advancing glacier overlaps with its melting and disappearance, causing the transported materials to be deposited.
The end moraine clay in Kleinschönach is very fine and reminds me of the dust created by the erosion of the Alps. In this project, I collect these traces and create works while thinking of the occasionally visible Alps.

The nearby Lake Constance is known for its airships, lovingly called “ZEPPELIN.” Large, white, and slowly moving – they transport things and at the same time obscure the landscape. These characteristics are shared by airships and glaciers.
With this shared feature in mind, I expanded my thoughts to connect glaciers and airships.
