This series arose from my experiences in the Black Forest in Germany. The title “White Forest” comes from the bleached fern leaves I found there. This whitening is a disease caused by a lack of sunlight. But paradoxically, the bright fern leaves seemed to be illuminated in the dark forest. Their shape reminded me of the image of the Black Forest from afar. This series imagines what kinds of creatures could exist in this microscopic “white forest.”
